We are offering a position for a Project Coordinator for LIFE17 NAT/ES/000184 Conservation of habitats and waterbirds in the SCI and SPA es0000175 “Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar” (LIFE-SALINAS)

The main objective of the LIFE-SALINAS Project is to improve the conservation of priority fauna species and habitats in the European Union Directives, particularly the Audouin’s gull (Larus audouinii) and priority habitats 1510*: Mediterranean salt steppes (Limonietalia) and 2250*: Coastal dunes with Juniperus spp in the SCI and SPA of the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, as well as to enhance ecosystem services by increasing and improving the quality of salt production.

About the job:

The coordinator’s duties will be carried out under the supervision of the Technical Director of the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, with a full-time schedule during the 4 years of the Project’s development, from September 2018 until October 1, 2022.

What your main responsibilities will be

  • Manage a work plan, developed in collaboration with the partners.
  • Monitor compliance with the work plan, analyzing deviations and updating it as necessary.
  • Review and coordinate agreements with the LIFE project partners.
  • Coordinate technicians involved in the project.
  • Convene and prepare Steering Committee meetings, as well as the resulting minutes.
  • Administer, plan, drive, and organize to ensure Project objectives are met within the defined time and costs.
  • Manage required administrative procedures and paperwork, progress reports (activities performed, effort spent, and other data of interest: risks, problems, solutions, etc.).
  • Financial or accounting management of the project. Cost justifications will be carried out by each partner individually and will be compiled by the project coordinator.
  • Execute reports and deliverables planned in the project regarding actions carried out.
  • Coordinate the internal flow of reports between the main beneficiary, associated beneficiaries, and the Commission’s external monitoring technical assistance for the project.
  • Produce initial, interim, and final reports.
  • Negotiate and execute contracts.
  • Prepare external assistance contracts and coordinate the work.
  • Control work (editing publications, website maintenance, etc.).
  • Coordinate the correct development and timely completion of each action by each of the beneficiaries.
  • Develop a Protocol for sustainability criteria in green purchasing and tendering.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and PhD, with demonstrated knowledge in the project’s thematic area.
  • Training and experience in the monitoring, management, and conservation of coastal saline wetlands will be valued.
  • Good knowledge of the operation of salt flats, waterbirds, and coastal habitats of the Region of Murcia (conservation status, distribution, abundance, ecology, and threats).
  • Understanding of threats affecting the environment, especially those related to wildlife and their habitats. Previous participation in similar projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with national and international conservation and environmental protection issues, as well as international conventions and environmental regulations governing them.

The following work experience is required

  • Experience regarding the EU LIFE program and the operation of these types of projects. The candidate must be familiar with the technical, financial, and administrative rules and requirements of the LIFE program.
  • Experience in monitoring, management, and conservation of coastal wetlands in the Region of Murcia (at least 4 years).
  • Proven and participatory experience in national and international forums, working with public administrations, associations, and other entities related to environmental protection.

Working conditions

We offer a one-year contract as a freelancer, with the possibility of extending it for the duration of the Project (4 years).

The salary and working conditions are those specified in the LIFE-SALINAS Project: €184,800, full-time during the 4 years of the Project, with own vehicle and travel costs included.
