Ses Salines Nature Reserve Ibiza and Formentera
The marine and land reserves of the Ses Salines Nature Reserve lie between Ibiza and Formentera, with more than 2,752 hectares on land and 14,028 hectares at sea.
The waters that bathe this nature reserve are so pure and crystalline that diving here is a true pleasure. This is thanks to the enormous Posidonia oceanica meadows that cover the sea bed, of great ecological value and declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. This plant is exclusive to our sea, and cleans and oxygenates the waters and also maintains the natural dynamic of the dune system.
It is accessible from both islands: in Ibiza there are the ancient salt pans and beautiful beaches such as those of Ses Salines, Es Cavallet and Es Codolar. On the Formentera side there are jewels such as S’Estany Pudent, S’Estany des Peix, Ses Salines and spectacular beaches such as Punta Prima and S’Espalmador.
Ses Salines is also a paradise for birdwatchers, as there are around 210 bird species that rest and nest here whilst migrating: flamingos, black-necked grebes, black-winged stilts, and many more.
